PLOT:
St. Eligius is an under-funded, decrepit old teaching hospital located in a poor area of 1980s inner city Boston. The physicians, residents, nurses, staff and patients live, work, love, fight, laugh, joke and heal in their own little world, which they jokingly, but lovingly, call "St. Elsewhere."

season 1 - 
While the doctors of St. Eligius search for a missing mental patient, paramedics bring in the victims of a terrorist bombing. Morrison has a struggle with his conscience when he has to treat a bombing suspect. Ehrlich is nervous about having to work with Dr. Craig. Samuels teaches Beale how to swim. Dr. Cavanero tells a couple that their newborn baby will have Down's Syndrome. Dr. Beale tries to get inside the head of the bomber. Dr. Westphall shows members of the boards around the hospital. Fiscus gets trapped in the elevator with Cathy Martin. Morrison treats a bag lady with an infection in her feet. Fiscus informs a man that he's been shot. The victim of the bank bombing succumbs to her injuries causing her husband to take action. Samuel befriends a young patient who must undergo an operation on his ankle. Chandler questions the competence of an older nurse. Cavanero must help a youth deliver a baby over the phone. Craig accepts the award for "Surgeon of the Year." Wayne celebrates his one-month anniversary with Cathy. When several patients die with symptoms of Legionnaires' disease, Dr. Westphall considers shutting down a ward. Cavanero clashes with a disrespectful nurse. White continues to struggle with his job, marriage, and finances. After evacuating a hospital ward, rumors abound that Dr. Westphall's job may be in jeopardy. Fiscus gets mugged in the emergency room. Cavanero begins seeing a fisherman who helped her deliver a baby. Beale believes that one of his patients may been impregnated by someone in the hospital. Beale informs a former psychiatric patient that she can go home but is against releasing her boyfriend who thinks he is a bird. Samuels continues with a practical joke on Craig. After being previously attacked, Fiscus decides to carry a gun in the emergency room. Fiscus has an emergency room encounter with a gang member. Ehrlich gets in hot water with Craig after he injures his finger playing handball. White's daughter ends up in the emergency room after swallowing mothballs. Morrison goes out on a house call for a guy who then pesters him to keep making house calls for his neighbors. Ralph goes around the hospital impersonating a doctor. Ehrlich passes out while assisting with surgery. White separates from his wife and moves in with the Morrisons. An overweight woman is surprised to learn she is pregnant. A new doctor is Samuel's former flame. Samuels has trouble concentrating on his work after being rejected by Dr. Paxton. Ralph escapes from his room again. Morrison is stunned when his near-death patient recovers after his parents perform Chinese rituals on him. Craig runs into one of his college friends only to find out that he is at the hospital for a sex change. White must ask a family to sign for an autopsy. Samuels and Paxton disagree on how to treat a patient with alcoholism. Chandler tries to help a patient regain his memory. Craig still struggles to accept his college friend's decision to undergo a sex change operation. Armstrong treats a patient with chronic nose bleeds. Chandler's amnesia patient meets with his parents. White tries to reconcile with his wife. After nearly collapsing, Auschlander must decide whether to go on chemotherapy. Fiscus looks for someone to stay with after he gets evicted. Chandler and Morrison treat a patient who was beaten in a racially-motivated gang fight. Ehrlich scrambles to find a last-minute date to Craig's party. Morrison finds out that one of his patient's injury were not from a racially-motivated scuffle as he initially claimed. White's wife asks him for money to get an abortion. Fiscus and Ehrlich have a falling out. Cavanero and Samuels go out of their way to prevent a famous porn star from being served a summons at the hospital. Armstrong feels that a well-respected surgeon is needlessly installing pacemakers in patients but gets little support from Craig. A man's request that his brother be allowed to die with dignity is denied by hospital administrators. Nurse Rosenthal returns to work following hospital stay. Ehrlich's first solo operation is interrupted by an unexpected guest. Fiscus and Daniels pay a visit to his elderly "aunt". Craig becomes much nicer to everyone when an attractive surgeon comes to the hospital. Morrison has to deal with a liver patient who would rather drink himself to death. Chandler gets sued after one of his patients dies in the elevator. White's life continues to spiral downward. Craig continues to be mesmerized by an attractive visiting doctor. Chandler gets stressed out over an impending wrongful death lawsuit. Morrison unsuccessfully tries to get through to White. A sick Samuels is comforted by Cavanero. Ehrlich and Morrison disagree on how to treat a patient. Daniels is threatened by an unstable patient and by the fact that Cathy Martin may still have feelings for Fiscus. Westphall reluctantly asks Craig to give a lecture to inner city kids. Morrison awaits the birth of his first child. Auschlander and a friend get into a scuffle with a reckless driver. White is accused of stealing drugs from the hospital. Fiscus is put to the test by Cathy Martin. Craig's son, also a doctor, turns out to be a pothead.

season 2 - 
Craig clashes with the new city budget advisor over funds to perform a heart transplant. Morrison has to deal with the rude husband of a stroke victim. Ehrlich meets a new girl at the laundromat. Luther gets attacked at the medicine cabinet. Fiscus continues to see both Martin and Daniels. With the heart transplant operation approaching, Craig becomes more tense and takes thing out on Ehrlich, who desperately wants to be a part of it. Caldwell, the new plastic surgeon, is anything but a stranger to Halloran. A former intern comes back to persuade Cavanero to change an unfavorable evaluation on him. The husband of a stroke victim struggles to help her rehabilitate. Halloran tries to get Westphall to agree to a nuclear contingency plan. Morrison receives some shocking news. Craig anxiously awaits the call to find a donor for his heart transplant patient. As Kochar's big day approaches, he is given an early wedding present by Cathy Martin. Members of the press gather at the hospital to report on the progress of the heart transplant. Morrison begins to blame himself for Nina's death. Luther asks Fiscus to invest in a stock with him. Rosenthal has trouble consoling a breast cancer patient. The staff members decide to have a Thanksgiving feast with Ehrlich and Craig competing for best turkey. Auschlander considers giving up the fight against cancer. An 11-year old boy is brought in to the hospital with leukemia-like symptoms. Northern Ireland's "troubles" reach St Eligius. A new psychiatrist joins the hospital. Dr. Craig finds that he has a secret admirer. An elevator entertainer keeps the hospital staff amused. Eve Leighton learns the identity of her heart donor. Dr. Westphall is in an atypically ornery mood. White is under investigation by the medical board for giving out pills without a prescription. An all-out war erupts between the Irish and Protestants. Cathy Martin becomes infatuated with Dr. Craig and begins sending him anonymous gifts. Westphall must find someone to care for his autistic son after his housekeeper quits. The new nurse's aide is a woman who Ehrlich had a sexual encounter with. Caldwell gets attacked at Halloran's home. Everyone in the hospital grows fearful when a patient is diagnosed with AIDS. Ehrlich and Daniels are chosen to coordinate a blood drive. Ehrlich considers proposing to Roberta. A risky transfer of a very sick patient from a private hospital draws the ire of Cavanero. A computer nerd who is a patient at the hospital develops a program to diagnose patients and is able to hack into the medical files. Morrison and Ridley treat a patient with severe mood swings. A blizzard cripples the city, causing Craig to be MIA. Ehrlich seeks counseling on his relationship with Roberta. A computer hacker breaks into the system, causing problems with patient diagnoses. The roof caves in on Cavanero. White finally goes before the Medical Board for inappropriately dispensing medicine. Daniels fears that White will implicate her for giving him the keys. Auschlander asks Fiscus to score him pot to counter the effects of his chemotherapy. Ehrlich is nervous about meeting Roberta's parents. A supervisor gets impatient with a deaf employee. Dr. Chandler runs the Boston Marathon alone in February. The Halloran family experiences tragedy. Dr. Ehrlich has an unforgettable wedding at Dr. Craig's house. A woman is raped outside the hospital. White has trouble adjusting to his new role at the hospital. Cavanero lets her job get in the way of a relationship. After another housekeeper quits, Westphall has trouble finding proper care for Tommy. Craig agrees to be filmed for a documentary. The hospital staff is on alert after the rapist strikes again wearing a ski mask. Morrison treats a construction worker who is not completely upfront about his medical problems for fear that he will lose his job. Ehrlich considers ending his marriage while Caldwell entertains the thought of getting married. Craig has his Doctor of the Year speech prepared. Morrison gets upset after a fellow doctor insensitively tells his patient that he must quit his job. After being raped, Cathy Martin turns up missing. Dr. Cathy Martin returns to work in a bad state. Nurse Rosenthal has reconstructive surgery. The documentary on Dr. Craig airs, much to his dismay. Dr. Morrison's patient, Keuhnilian, is treated successfully. Members of the staff are upset about White being able to return to work after getting a reduced charge of assault. Cavanero must tell a college student that he has testicular cancer. Axelrod loses Fiscus' lucky hat. Chandler gets upset when his girlfriend pays more attention to Luther. Four women share the same room: a gravely ill woman; an elderly woman who may lose her independence; a middle-aged woman with a history of erratic behavior; and a younger woman who is getting a nose job. Victor's spacey aunt comes to visit and has her eyes set on Dr. Westphall. White goes on trial for rape. Armstrong makes a fatal misdiagnosis. Everyone prepares for the National Boards. Westphall, Auschlander, and Craig must decide on which residents to cut. Fiscus agrees to pose for a newspaper feature only to realize the pictures are provocative. Caldwell and Halloran's trip to Paris is canceled "on the fly". A depressed Armstrong is found to be bulimic. Craig's formerly drug-addicted son comes back home to try and reconcile with him. Due to the need for repairs, the first floor ER is temporarily shut down. Luther goes out of his way to find a cat for a sick little girl. A very nervous Axelrod interviews for a residency position. Auschlander collapses in a broken elevator. Morrison goes out on his first date since the death of his wife.

season 3 - 
Fiscus gives the new residents a tour of the hospital. A nun must decide whether to disconnect life support when her fellow sister, injured in a car accident, is declared brain dead. After stalled negotiations with management, the nurse's union considers striking. Three city firefighters are rushed to the hospital after suffering serious burns. Clancy tells Jack that she is pregnant but has no plans on keeping the baby. Sister Domenica threatens to take the hospital to court over the right to disconnect Sister Teresa's life support. Caldwell continues to treat the injured fire fighters. Fiscus treats a child whose only relative is a woman claiming to be his fairy godmother. Ehrlich teaches a sex education class to bypass patients. Westphall is forced to reinstate Peter White. Clancy decides to go to an abortion clinic without Morrison's support. The nurses go on strike. The rapist strikes again at the hospital. The Craigs decide to see a marriage counselor. Westphall prepares as his daughter goes off to college. The hospital continues to be hurt by the nurse's strike for which a deadline is set. Papandrao is forced to leave the picket line to help Ehrlich during an emergency operation. Martin is raped for the second time. Craig hires Luther and Warren, both unemployed due to the strike, to fix a hole in his wall. Auschlander feels negligent when a long-term maintenance worker develops asbestosis. White desperately attempts to locate his children. A mental health patient admits to the hospital rapes. One of the firefighters develops complications in his treatment. Ehrlich's bid to meet the new nutritionist turns into a disaster. Auschlander hires Joan Halloran as his assistant. White has a reunion with his wife and kids. A gun is stolen from the ER. Axelrod thinks there is something wrong with him. Rosenthal begins an extra-marital affair. One of the firefighters being treated is happy with the results of his plastic surgery while another cannot wait to leave the hospital. White is shot and rushed into emergency surgery. Morrison tries to find a psychological cause for a boy's asthma. Ehrlich incurs the wrath of Craig after agreeing to appear on a television news show. Worn down by stress, Auschlander considers retirement. Morrison is having nightmares while Westphall is unable to sleep at all. Fiscus treats a patient with a severe sleep disorder while Cavanero diagnoses another one with sleep apnea. The last of the firemen is discharged and surrounded by family, he drives away on his squad's engine, horns blazing and Caldwell standing on the sidewalk smiling and wearing his firemen's hat. Morrison' neighbor was babysitting Pete when he had to rush his daughter to ER; in the ensuing fight to save her, Morrison gives her father options where he can be more than a spectator. Two very cantankerous brothers check in and cause many more problems than the staff anticipates. Kathy is given a document requiring trust, tact and understanding. Cavanero gets in over her head with an attractive doctor and the obnoxious Mrs. Hufnagel gets dropped on yet another hapless resident. Auschandler considers a risky procedure for Alexis; the rumor Cavanero started comes back to haunt her; Chandler turns in a woman for illegally practicing medicine. A woman comes home to find her ex-husband growing weaker from the procedure he's going through to help their sick daughter; Martin gives Fiscus a letter that may determine Daniels' fate. Westphall decides his son's future; Martin leaves the psych ward to help another patient; Ehrlich helps a woman with an active libido; Rosenthal is confronted by the wife of her lover. Auschlander's friend, a world-renown doctor who migrated to Africa 40 years ago, comes to visit the hospital. Ehrlich is advised to make his TV spots more entertaining. Craig must remove a potentially exploding bullet from a shooting victim. Rosenthal, with her 45th birthday approaching and husband walking out, has a midlife crisis. Wyler finds himself out of his depth when he observes Tshalla's kidney transplant. A Caribbean medical school with questionable credentials that tries to recruit Luther turns out to have a "graduate" working at St. Eligius. When Morrison loses all hope, Halloran tries to defend him; a tragedy convinces Wyler to leave Boston; Mrs. Hufnagel proposes marriage. Caldwell takes on the case of a woman with a disfiguring disease; Craig is visited by his brother at his 30th anniversary celebration; a new doctor takes over the ER. Dr. Woodley treats a 14-year old pregnant girl whose boyfriend is a drug dealer. Ehrlich decides to make changes to his televised health segments. Westphall's daughter returns from college homesick. Dean heads to Florida when Maddy goes into labor; a phone repairman gets shocked in the hospital; Auschlander cancels his own tribute. With the First Lady coming to Boston, St Eligius is chosen by the Secret Service to care for her, if needed. As the staff prepare and enter alert mode, Ehrlich reports a case of potential child abuse and Shirley Daniels returns. Westphall puts his house up for sale; a woman operated on for disfigurement has her bandages removed; Daniels returns to the scene of the crime; Mrs. Hufnagel gets plastic surgery. Elliot goes on a date; Caldwell tries to persuade his patient to leave her room; Mrs. Hufnagel leaves the hospital; Daniels is declared fit for work. Chandler must try convince a clown with MS to quit the circus; Axelrod meets with a lawyer about Mrs. Hufnagel's estate; Morrison hits a low point in both his professional and personal life; Caldwell's facial surgery patient expresses her feelings for him. Luther is rushed into surgery after losing his hearing in a boiler room explosion; Auschlander gets some very sad news while reading the paper; Axelrod puts Mrs. Hufnagel to rest; Craig gets some surprising news about his son. Westphall, Craig and Auschlander go to the bar "where everybody knows your name," manned by a skeleton staff. During the meeting at Cheers, Westphall announces he is quitting medicine. Craig later meets an old mentor who is suffering from advanced dementia and doesn't recognize him.

season 4 - 
Auschlander and Craig have trouble dealing with the resignation of Westphall; a mentally ill amnesia patient gets mistaken for the chairman of the Residency Review Committee; Chandler and Morrison have a falling out over Vietnam. Luther goes out on his first day of paramedic training; Craig is reunited with his estranged son and new wife; Westphall alienates the hospital staff after being back for only one day. The Craigs deal with the aftermath of Stephen's death; Caldwell's excursion to a rented cabin on the cape is crashed by Fiscus; Axelrod becomes self-conscious about his weight. The Craigs prepare for Stephen's funeral; Caldwell's sexual indiscretions lead to a practical joke being played on him; Westphall tries to sell the hospital board on increasing funding for malnutrition; Luther agrees to help Axelrod lose weight. The Craigs meet Yvonne's parents and their relationship gets off to an icy start; Westphall's efforts to start a hunger unit in the hospital takes a toll on his health; Caldwell's sexual escapades take a scary turn; a cancer patient's impotence following an operation causes Fiscus to reflect on his own life. Westphall is visited by his daughter at the hospital; the Residency Review Committee puts pressure on Caldwell and Turner to perform more surgeries; Axelrod's inability to lose weight costs him a relationship; two mentally challenged patients are caught having sexual intercourse; an astronaut is treated for an unknown condition which causes paralysis in his legs. Craig travels to Clinton, Ohio in hopes of bringing back his granddaughter. Ehrlich clashes with Caldwell over an unnecessary plastic surgery. Morrison goes against the US military by refusing to discharge an astronaut. John Doe #6 takes the identity of Mary Richards from The Mary Tyler Moore Show (1970). Craig gets a surprise visitor with good news; Ehrlich is demoted to gynecology; Westphall treats a patient who is suffering from malnutrition; Morrison takes the Remedial Exam for the third time; the tension between Rosenthal and Papandrao hits a boiling point; Chandler's romance with Turner faces a major hurdle. Fiscus is reunited with a homeless man that once helped him move; Ehrlich helps deliver a baby; Westphall's housekeeper is admitted to the hospital with a back injury; Caldwell steps over the line with Papandrao. There is a citywide blackout in Boston and St. Eligius is hit hard. The so-called "back up" generator does not start automatically and this endangers surgery. Therefore, the Drs. Auschlander and Craig decide to turn off power for all "unnecessary" parts of the hospital, including the elevators. However, Dr. Westphall is stuck in the elevator with a character; Dr. Fiscus proposes to his lady love and she accepts. Santa Claus comes to the hospital and collapses while meeting the children; the Craig hosts a Christmas party; Ehrlich is upset when no one buys him any gifts; Westphall has Lizzy and her boyfriend over for the holidays. Dr. Chandler decides to do his volunteer work at the Boston Women's Clinic where protesters caused criminal damage and were impeding the operation of the clinic. The young mentally challenged girl, Pru, is scheduled for an abortion at St. Eligius; Dr. Morrison is unwilling to perform his job as her attending physician because of his personal beliefs. Luckily, Dr. Erlich is set to perform the abortion. A bomb explodes at Boston Women's Clinic; no one knows if Dr. Chandler survived. When their patients are brought to St. Eligius, Dr. Auschlander receives a telephone bomb threat. Dr. Fiscus rues his proposal to Mona; Morena has her INS hearing. A bomb is planted near the hospital's gift shop; Fiscus is unhappy when he is forced to do his community service with the elderly; Rosenthal must deal with Papandrao both at work and in the courtroom; John Doe is close to discovering his true identity; Ehrlich and Chandler differ over how to treat a couple that is struggling to conceive. The matriarch of the wealthy political Endicott family comes to the hospital for an extended stay; Auschlander is less than thrilled about the Endicotts being at the hospital; Morrison must undergo surgery for the first time; the Valeres finally make a decision on the future of their family; after making an embarrassing mistake on one of his patients, Axelrod is asked to treat a gorilla; Fiscus has second thoughts about his engagement to Mona. After giving blood, Caldwell gets some sobering news. Mrs. Endicott decides to go under the knife. Morrison, Fiscus, Clancy and Mona's love lives become entangled. The Endicotts deal with the aftermath of traumatic events. Caldwell struggles to come to grips with his prognosis. Ehrlich meets a teen with growth problems while doing his community service. Fiscus is leery about taking his relationship with Clancy to the next level. St. Eligius' 50th anniversary spurs memories, including its opening in 1935 under the leadership of Father Joseph McCabe, the arrival of recently emigrated Helen Rosenthal and Mark's return as chief of surgery, Mark's bypass on Patrick O'Casey and the death of Maureen Westphall. Morrison struggles to diagnose a difficult patient and cope with the loss of Pete to a kidnapper. Morrison still tries to find out what is wrong with Terence O'Casey and is frantic as to where his son is. In 1935, Westphall's entire family, with the exception of his father, is killed in an accident. In 1945, Westphall was so unruly that Father McCabe resorts to an unusual tactic to straighten him out. Auschlander arrives and has to deal with anti-Semitism and meets the woman whom he would later marry. O'Casey's parents come to visit their three-year-old daughter, who is sick. In 1955, Craig, an intern who acts like Ehrlich, was learning under the eye of Dr. Domedion. McCabe learns that the hospital is being turned over to city so he is being relieved of his duties as hospital administrator. The O'Caseys' daughter is in critical condition, which gives Morrison the clue as to what is wrong with his patient in 1986. Axelrod and Fiscus are sent to a medical conference in California; Ehrlich treats a football player will do anything to get another chance to play; Morrison must tell a child that one of his arms will need to be amputated; the Craigs seek counseling; Novino's first day on the job as a doctor does not go very well for her. Alex Corey is brought back to the hospital to paint a portrait; Chandler does his community service at a crisis hot line and gets a suicidal caller; the Craigs' marriage continues to show strain; Axelrod struggles for self respect; Westphall invites Novino over for dinner. Novino treats a cartoonist with a life-threatening condition; Westphall asks Rosenthal for advice on his feelings for Novino; Morrison performs his community service at a prison; Ehrlich must treat Mrs. Craig and is very leery about diagnosing her with anything for fear that it will jeopardize his working relationship with Dr. Craig. Turner returns from Mississippi; Chandler is nervous about the status of his relationship with Turner; Auschlander ends up being in the wrong place at the wrong time when he ventures to a property that is owned by the hospital; Craig becomes more irritable after temporarily giving up custody of his granddaughter. Westphall and Auschlander don't see eye to eye on plans for an adjoining property; Turner gets attached to an orphaned baby; Luther fears that he might never be more than an orderly; Rosenthal is visited by her reformed son and first husband; Novino gets plenty of male attention at the hospital; Ehrlich joins Chandler at a protest rally; the Craigs argue about their granddaughter's baptism. A mentally-disturbed man who thinks that he is the city of Boston roams around the ER. Novino accompanies Westphall to the Doctor of the Year banquet. Craig has an auto breakdown which causes him to miss the awards ceremony. Ehrlich is torn when he gets an offer from Boston General. Axelrod tries being less amenable to other people; the third year residency list is released. 

season 5 - 
The hospital's founder, Father McCabe, 90 years old and stricken with ALS, comes to visit the hospital; Craig gets some bad news regarding his hand injury; Morrison returns and gets a surprise in the morgue. Craig tries his first surgery since his hand injury; Wade is depressed after splitting with her husband; Griffin, the new resident, clashes with Rosenthal; Fiscus and Axelrod get X-rays for a patient they believe is tennis player John McEnroe; Morrison introduces his new blended family to everyone. Craig has trouble accepting the fact that the hospital hired a new Director of Surgery; an elderly woman from an adjoining apartment spies on the goings-on at the hospital; Fiscus stands up for a sick elderly man whose daughters are intent on putting him in a nursing home; Lucy invites Ehrlich to a family dinner. Craig has trouble adjusting to life outside of the hospital; Axelrod abruptly walks out while examining a patient with a colostomy bag; Luther faces opposition in his training as physician's assistant; Fiscus and Auschlander go to the home of a dying patient who is being cared for by his estranged daughter. Westphall has difficulty dealing with the parents of a terminally ill teen who pretend that nothing is wrong; Craig decides to write his memoirs but has trouble focusing; Griffin plays Birch and Novino against each other; Turner gets in the middle of a difference of opinion between Morrison and Chandler regarding a diagnosis. Craig gets John Doe to help him type up his memoirs; Turner faces a moral crisis when one of her patients refuses to accept blood due to her religious beliefs; Griffin sells out Novino and Birch in order to save himself; Ehrlich and Papandrao try to sort out their relationship after the news of their sexual encounter becomes public. John Doe takes on his next persona: Dr. Craig; Griffin seduces Lizzy, not knowing that she is Westphall's daughter; Luther decides to give his Physician's Assistant training another shot by helping to diagnose a patient with involuntary tics; Wade and Chandler treat a patient who unsuccessfully tries to climb the hospital ledge. Craig initiates a search for John Doe who left the hospital with his manuscript; Axelrod is put in charge of a 14 year old medical student; Morrison continues to suffer emotional damage stemming from the prison rape; Auschlander is met with resistance when he tries to implement a drug testing program. Fiscus is shot and while they try to save him, he finds himself meeting some people whom he knows who died. Westphall begins to doubt the long term viability of his relationship with Novino; Fiscus' estranged father comes to visit him in the hospital; Kiem begins to sees the writing on the wall when Craig returns; Auschlander finds that he has things in common with a rabbi who is a patient at the hospital. Westphall befriends a well-respected Irish author who turns out to be a raging alcoholic; Craig attends the hearing to allow his housekeeper's husband into the country; Ehrlich takes an interest in Papandrao's new boyfriend; Rosenthal confronts McPhail about her suspicious behavior; Axelrod has a string of bad luck. Craig introduces Dr. Peltrovich to the hospital; Chandler, Ehrlich and Morrison embark on a game of paint ball; Turner feels pressure from Auschlander when she has to do a risky operation on a litigious patient; Griffin tries to make amends with Wade and Rosenthal; Richard becomes self-conscious about his baldness. Craig gets jealous when Peltrovich begins to steal his spotlight at the hospital; Fiscus treats a woman with leukemia who refuses treatment; Novino treats two teens who are reluctant to return to their home situations; Ehrlich has trouble getting anyone at the hospital to buy tickets to a banquet honoring him; an abused woman comes to the hospital intent on getting revenge on her husband. Ehrlich's world is shaken by the arrival of his long lost parents; Kiem neglects her visiting husband to spend time with a patient who just lost his wife; Axelrod nearly loses a patient after deferring to Novino and Griffin on a diagnosis; Luther is reunited with Polly who wants to go off the medication that controls her Tourette's Syndrome. Westphall finds out surprising news about Lizzie; Craig is able to track down John Doe at a book signing; prejudices surface when Chandler clashes with a veteran private practice doctor; Novino stumbles upon a black market organ trade being done in the mortuary; the board of trustees inform Auschlander of the hospital's uncertain future. Ellen invites Griffin to stay at the Craig household; Novino is reluctant to put a blind homeless man back on the street after he no longer requires treatment; Wade has to be escorted around the hospital after losing her contact lens; Auschlander gets surprising news from an old flame. Westphall and Auschlander must put together a plan to save the hospital; an obnoxious patient creates problems for the hospital staff; Axelrod's veterinarian father visits him at the hospital with his dog; Rosenthal's daughter returns from overseas looking unrecognizable; Turner must tell an expectant young couple that their baby may not be born healthy. Josiah Bartlett from Boston General expresses interest in buying the hospital with an effort to recruit Craig; Morrison testifies at the parole hearing of the guy who raped him; Fiscus treats a former fraternity brother who is a dentist with fainting spells; Kiem is on edge when she cannot get a hold of her son; Ehrlich gets jealous when he sees Papandrao talking to Griffin. Fiscus takes interest in an expectant woman who is believed to be artificially inseminated with his sperm. Three children get bored in their room and decide to wander around the hospital. Westphall is visited by a childhood friend who reminds him of an old pact. Craig and Auschlander look for ways to keep the hospital afloat. Daniels is escorted from jail into the hospital for treatment and her homecoming does not turn out to be a happy one. Westphal reunites with an old friend. Chandler and Novino compete against one another to diagnose a patient. Rumors swirl about Ehrlich and Papandrao getting married in Mexico. With the prospective new buyer of St. Eligius visiting, flashbacks of memorable moments are recalled. Luther helps out with the mercy-killing investigation; Turner performs a risky fetal surgery; the Craigs' granddaughter meets her mother; the new owners of St. Eligius make everyone feel in the pink. Elliot has nowhere to go when patients and staff are relocated; the Craigs and the Morrisons are in for big surprises; attempts to save the hospital gain little attention. 

season 6 - 
St. Eligius is reopened thanks to a new corporate owner, whose plans please Craig but leave Westphall wondering; Elliot is missing from the returnees; Fiscus finds the first patients; the Craigs' marriage seems to be headed for court. A fantasy grips Ehrlich; the Morrison family is crowded by close quarters and a visitor; Gideon finds an error when he steps into Westphall's territory; a large man undergoes hypnosis for surgery. Fed up with the changes imposed by the hospital's new owners, Dr. Westphall resigns from St. Eligius. As he quits, he moons Dr. Gideon. A student nurse's lie comes back to haunt her; Warren wants better conditions for the orderlies; Craig's artificial-heart program improves as his marriage deteriorates; Wade's hostelry is filled with hostility. Chandler takes on a patient whose problems may have to do with Mrs. Hufnagel; the Craig 9000 is implanted once the recipient is rounded up; Elliot is feeling gloomy on Halloween. Ehrlich embarrasses himself at a conference; Gideon makes offers to Chandler, Morrison and Ellen Harper. Friends gather to celebrate Westphall's birthday in New Hampshire, while Ellen, Craig and Lizzie question all the decisions they've made in their lives. Surgeons are forced to work nude during an OR-infection study; a visitor lifts Auschlander's spirits; a dumpster dweller protests hospital waste; Morrison and Novino fight an infection in the ICU. Ehrlich verbally assaults Craig; Griffin fails as a spiritual counselor; Elliot undergoes surgery; Rosenthal enters family therapy with little support; Gideon is made the victim of another high-tech innovation. Craig returns to the hospital, while Rosenthal wonders if she can return to work as well; Brett Johnston's parents pay him a visit; Auschlander is asked to be a best man. A fire starts at the Doctor of the Year dinner; Papandrao and her in-laws look for Ehrlich; Chandler is in for a surprise; Fiscus tries to figure out how to tell his plans to his mother; Wade is upset by her patient's bickering parents. Third year doctors end their residencies. Auschlander tries to keep the hospital open but complications arise. Griffin places his trust in God. Ehrlich comes back from a soul searching surf safari. Ellen is offered a job in Cleveland.
