PLOT:
A chemistry teacher diagnosed with inoperable lung cancer turns to manufacturing and selling methamphetamine with a former student in order to secure his family's future.

season 1 -
Walter White celebrates his 50th birthday breakfast with his wife, Skyler, and their teenage son, Walter Jr, before heading off to his job as a high-school chemistry teacher. Frequent coughing fits result in Walt passing out at his second job at a car wash. Later, he is diagnosed with Stage 3 terminal lung cancer. Walt does a ride-along on a methamphetamine lab raid with his brother-in-law, DEA Agent Hank Schrader. DEA agents apprehend a cook/dealer named Emilio. Walt, waiting in the car, spots his former student Jesse Pinkman escaping the raid through a neighbor's window. Walt tracks down Jesse to propose a partnership wherein Walt cooks crystal meth and Jesse manages sales and distribution. They begin cooking crystal meth in a remote area of the desert in a recreational vehicle. Walt's skill in chemistry results in a pure, highly valuable product. Jesse approaches Krazy-8, a local distributor and cousin to Emilio, to arrange distribution. At a meetup with Walt, Emilio recognizes him from the DEA raid. A panicked Jesse tells Walt to run but knocks himself unconscious. Knowing the dealers intend to kill them both, Walt pretends to teach Emilio and Krazy-8 the crystal meth recipe before poisoning them with phosphine gas and driving off. Returning to Albuquerque, Walt and Jesse try to dispose of the two bodies in the RV, which becomes increasingly complicated when Krazy-8 disappears. Driving back to Jesse's from work, Walt discovers a barely-conscious Krazy-8 wandering the streets of Jesse's neighborhood, returning him to the house and restraining him with a bicycle lock. Walt continues to procrastinate killing Krazy-8, instead providing him with food, water, and a means to relieve himself. Meanwhile, Skyler grows suspicious of Walt's recent behavior and, at an ultrasound appointment, questions him about his recent phone call with Jesse. Walt covers by telling her that Jesse sells him marijuana. Skyler visits Jesse and threatens to call Hank if Jesse contacts Walt about marijuana again. Jesse disposes of Emilio's dead body using hydrofluoric acid as instructed by Walt, but he elects to use his bathtub instead of Walt's suggestion of a plastic bin, resulting in the acid eating through the bathtub floor and leaving a huge mess of dissolved body parts. Two children playing in the desert area where the RV had been find a gas mask that Walt and Jesse accidentally left behind. Skyler's sister, Marie, mistakenly believes that Walter Jr. is smoking marijuana and asks Hank to scare him straight. Hank takes Walt Jr. to a rundown motel to teach him about gateway drugs. Walt and Jesse clean up the remains of Emilio, and Walt is torn between whether to keep Krazy-8 alive or kill him. While bringing Krazy-8 food, Walt collapses while descending the stairs and smashes the plate on the floor. Upon waking up, Walt reveals to Krazy-8 that he has lung cancer—the first person he tells—and they start sharing the unexpected things they have in common. Krazy-8 also sows mistrust against Jesse, warning Walt about working with a drug addict. Walt decides to release Krazy-8, but while disposing of the shards of the broken plate, he sees that a shard is missing, and realizes that Krazy-8 has concealed it to use as a weapon. When Walt confronts Krazy-8, Krazy-8 attacks him; Walt strangles and kills him with the bicycle lock restraint. Walt lies and tells Skyler he was working late at the car wash, but she has already talked to his boss and knows he quit weeks ago. That night, when Walter gets home, he tells Skyler that they need to talk. As Jesse and Walt's meth begins to spread in Albuquerque, Hank starts looking for the new drug kingpin, unaware that it's Walt. At a family barbecue, Walt reveals to Walt Jr., Marie, and Hank that he has cancer. Hank promises Walt that he will always take care of his family. Walt Jr. becomes upset that Walt is acting like everything is normal. Jesse becomes paranoid that law enforcement is after him, and he visits his family's house; Jesse's parents are disappointed and worried to see him in such a state. Jesse finds out that his younger brother, who is very successful in sports and music, is smoking marijuana to deal with the intense pressure from their parents. Jesse covers for him but is forced to leave his parents' house, as they believe the marijuana is his. Jesse visits Walt to try and convince him they should continue cooking, but Walt tells him never to try to see him again. Walt and Skyler visit an oncologist who says Walt's cancer is treatable. Skyler is hopeful, but Walt does not think getting treatment is financially feasible. Jesse becomes frustrated that he cannot secure stable employment outside of the drug world. Walt and Skyler attend the birthday party of Elliott Schwartz, Walt's former colleague and current CEO of Gray Matter Technologies, where Walt also reunites with Gretchen Schwartz, his former fiancée and current wife and business partner of Elliott. After reminiscing with Walt about their time as graduate students, Elliott offers him a job at Gray Matter. Realizing that Skyler must have told Elliott about his cancer diagnosis, Walt declines, believing it to be charity. Jesse attempts to replicate Walt's meth recipe with his friend Badger but is unsuccessful. Walt Jr. is busted by an undercover cop for trying to purchase beer as a minor and calls Hank to pick him up. Hank feels guilty about Walt Jr. not contacting his own father, but does not lecture Walt Jr. Walt's family attempts an intervention to persuade him to undergo chemotherapy. Marie says everyone should let Walt make the decision on his own, to Skyler's dismay. Walt insists that he needs the agency to make a choice for himself and that he does not want to live his last days miserable with treatment. The next morning, he relents and tells Skyler he will accept Gretchen and Elliott's offer to cover the cost of his treatment. Gretchen calls Walt to discuss their offer but tells her the assistance isn't needed, lying that his insurance covers treatment after all. He goes to Jesse's house and asks to resume their partnership. Walt undergoes his first chemotherapy session. Walt and Jesse continue their agreement in which Walt will cook the meth while Jesse handles sales. When Walt removes his shirt during a cooking session, Jesse recognizes the chemotherapy marks on Walt's chest and deduces that he has lung cancer. Meanwhile, Hank ties the recovered respirator to Walt's high school's chemistry lab. Hank falsely arrests the kindly school janitor on charges of stealing equipment, who has a criminal record for drug possession and had a small amount of marijuana in his car. Walt shaves his head when he discovers that his hair is falling out. When their initial batch of meth only yields $2,600, Walt insists they need to ramp up production. Jesse's friend Skinny Pete introduces him to the distributor who replaced Krazy-8: psychopathic drug lord Tuco Salamanca. When Jesse demands up-front payment for the meth, Tuco severely beats him and steals the meth. Walt later confronts Tuco on his own, causing an explosion in his hideout and forces him to pay for the stolen meth. Impressed, Tuco agrees to work with Walt. Walt and Jesse face production difficulties when they are not able to procure enough pseudoephedrine pills. Jesse, who is now living in the RV, puts his house on the market. Skyler has a baby shower at which Marie gives her a diamond tiara for the baby. Skyler decides to return the tiara given to her by Marie, only to be detained at the store and informed that it had been stolen; when she confronts Marie, Marie flatly denies stealing it. Walt and Jesse break into a warehouse and steal a large barrel of methylamine to produce larger amount of meth by an alternative cooking process. They deliver the promised amount of meth (4 lbs) to Tuco and his associates, No-Doze and Gonzo. When No-Doze makes an offhanded remark to Walt, Tuco becomes enraged and savagely beats him in front of the horrified Walt and Jesse before driving away.

season 2 -
The opening scene in black-and-white film shows a partially burned stuffed animal floating in the White's backyard pool. Tuco and Gonzo return immediately to the junkyard meetup site asking Walt to resuscitate No-Doze, who has died from his injuries. Gonzo hides the body under a car. Fearful of Tuco's violent and unpredictable manner, and noticing an ominous black SUV outside their respective homes, Walt develops a plan to poison Tuco with untraceable ricin. Hank reviews the security surveillance footage of the methylamine warehouse break-in. Though he does not recognize Walt and Jesse, he can tell they are inexperienced thieves. Hank and the DEA find the bodies of both Gonzo and No-Doze in the junkyard after Gonzo accidentally bled out, which sets off a manhunt for Tuco. After receiving a picture of Gonzo's body from a jesting Hank, Walt mistakenly believes Gonzo was murdered by Tuco and becomes convinced that Tuco will come after him and Jesse next. Skyler tells Hank about Marie's shoplifting, and learns she has already been receiving therapy for kleptomania, though Marie still refuses to acknowledge the tiara theft. Seeing headlights outside his home window, Walt hurriedly leaves a confused Skyler to investigate, where he finds Jesse being held at gunpoint by Tuco. Tuco orders Walt to get in the car and they drive away. Tuco takes Walt and Jesse at gunpoint to a remote desert hideout, where he takes care of his sick uncle Hector Salamanca, a former drug kingpin who is now incapacitated due to a stroke and can only communicate with a bell. Tuco explains that Hank and the DEA have rolled his entire organization. Unaware of Gonzo's death, Tuco believes Gonzo has ratted him out and becomes extremely agitated. Tuco voices his plan to take Walt to Mexico and run a covert cooking operation in the jungle. After several unsuccessful attempts to have Tuco ingest the ricin, Hector warns Tuco using his bell that Walt and Jesse are not to be trusted. Enraged, Tuco attacks and attempts to kill Jesse, but Jesse manages to shoot him in the torso and escape. Meanwhile, Skyler enlists Hank to help track down Walt. After Marie reveals that Walt has a second cell phone, Skyler mentions that Jesse had been supplying Walt with marijuana. After visiting Jesse's mother, Hank tracks Jesse's car to Tuco's hideout and gets into a shootout with Tuco, whom he kills in self-defense. Seeing Hank from a distance, Walt and Jesse bury the gun and run off into the desert. Walt forms a plan to explain his and Jesse's disappearance and they split up to hitchhike back to the city. Alone, Walt goes to a supermarket, removes his clothes, and wanders around the aisles, feigning a disoriented state. He is hospitalized and claims to have no memory of the past several days. Walt is scheduled to undergo ongoing psychiatric evaluation, but is ultimately released after telling his psychiatrist that he simply wanted to be alone and faked his "fugue state" to cover this from his family. Meanwhile, Jesse, who is now a fugitive, returns to his house and, with Badger's help, packs all of his lab equipment into the RV and arranges it to be towed. He then allows the DEA to find him in a motel room with a prostitute, with whom he claims to have been shacked up all weekend. Hank brings in Hector to identify him, but the old man refuses to cooperate with the authorities. Jesse is released, but the DEA confiscates all of his money. Walt convinces Jesse to continue cooking meth, saying that nothing has changed. While things have blown over with their disappearance, Jesse has no money and Walt cannot leave the house without Skyler wondering where he is. Jesse's parents, who own his house, order him to vacate, citing Hank's visit as the final straw. Now homeless and having his motorbike stolen, Jesse tracks down his hidden RV and spends the night in it. Suspicious of Walt's actions, including his denial of having a second cell phone, Skyler begins going out all day and refuses to tell Walt of her whereabouts. An increasingly frustrated Walt continues to deny any wrongdoing. After stealing his RV from the impound lot, Jesse arrives at Walt's home and convinces him to give him half of their remaining money. Walt continues his treatment and his condition improves, but he is concerned about the growing medical bills, which include the hospital visit in his "fugue state". Jesse begins to re-establish his life, paying off his debts and getting a new place to live. He develops an interest in his new next-door neighbor and landlord, Jane Margolis. Hank and the DEA come across the name Heisenberg, but are not sure if he is real or just an urban legend. After his shootout with Tuco, Hank is promoted and appointed to a tristate drug task force, but experiences panic attacks. Skyler and Marie reconcile. Walt and Jesse resume cooking. Jesse is not keen on selling on the street and suggests he and Walt take over Tuco's role as a distributor to increase their profits; he recruits his friends Badger, Skinny Pete, and Combo as dealers. Skinny Pete is ripped off by a drug-addicted couple. Unimpressed, Walt tells Jesse that unless he does something about it, they will develop a reputation for being easy marks. Walt returns to work. Gretchen Schwartz drops by the White's home where Skyler expresses her gratitude for paying for Walt's treatment. Gretchen does not reveal the truth to Skyler, but privately expresses her shock and anger to Walt, who bitterly tells her to mind her own business and blames her and Elliott for profiting off of his research and cutting him out. In response, Gretchen calls Skyler and tells her that she and Elliott can no longer pay for Walt's treatment. Walt covers by telling Skyler that Gretchen and Elliott are insolvent, which Skyler believes. Meanwhile, Jesse tracks down the couple - a man named Spooge and his female partner - who ripped off Skinny Pete, but finds only their young and heavily neglected son at the house. Jesse makes the boy food and watches TV with him until the couple returns home with a stolen ATM. They incapacitate Jesse. Later, the female addict crushes Spooge's skull under the ATM after he repeatedly insults her. Horrified, Jesse recovers the meth and cash from the ATM, calls the police, wraps the boy in a blanket on the front porch, and flees the scene. Walt has trouble getting in touch with Jesse, who has been staying at home since his encounter with Spooge. Jesse is also not providing product to his dealers, so Walt arranges to deliver it. He learns that the word on the street is that Jesse killed Spooge and, due to his new reputation as a cold-blooded killer, they are having no problem at all collecting payment. Walt decides the time has come to expand their territory and put Jesse's new reputation to good use. Skyler seeks a job and is rehired as a bookkeeper by her previous boss, Ted Beneke. Jesse and Jane continue to bond. Hank struggles to fit in at his new job in El Paso where he is perceived as a "gringo". During an investigation, Hank's task force comes across the severed head of an informant mounted on a tortoise, which causes him to feel sick and run to a nearby vehicle. He is mocked by the other agents before an explosive strapped to the tortoise goes off, killing or injuring several DEA agents, while Hank remains unharmed. Hank suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder after the bombing in El Paso. Walt gives Hank a motivational speech to help cheer him up. Jesse and Jane have begun a sexual relationship; Jesse learns that Jane is in recovery from addiction. Walt and Jesse face yet another problem when Badger is arrested by the Albuquerque police. They end up hiring a shady lawyer, Saul Goodman, who ensures that Badger gets off with a light sentence without having to give away Jesse or Walt's identity. Through a private investigator, Saul tracks down Walt at the school and offers his services for a cut of the profit. Walt is convinced that his medical condition is deteriorating; he continues to have coughing fits and is now coughing up blood. After Saul calculates the numbers, Walt realizes that there is not much money left for his family. With an excuse of visiting his mother, Walt and Jesse set off for the desert for a marathon cooking session over an extended weekend. During their trip, Jesse accidentally leaves the keys in the ignition, inadvertently draining the RV's battery. Walt and Jesse find themselves stuck in the middle of the desert, cold and without food and water. Walt's knowledge of chemistry again saves the day, as they build a makeshift battery able to jump-start the RV. Returning to Albuquerque, Walt and Skyler discover that Walt's cancer is in remission. Despite the good news about his condition, Walt is unhappy, verging on anger. Skyler decides to throw a party to celebrate the news and thank all of their friends for their support; Walt gets drunk and forces Walt Jr. to drink an excessive amount of tequila, provoking an argument with Hank. Embarrassed about his behavior, Walt tries to make amends. Walt also tells Jesse the good news and tells him that he is finished with their enterprise. Skyler confides to her boss, Ted, about Walt's condition. Jesse's relationship with Jane continues to grow, but he is taken aback when her father, Donald, drops in to see her; Jane does not introduce Jesse as her boyfriend. The ensuing confrontation compromises their relationship; however, they make up in the end. After Combo is murdered by a rival gang, Saul proposes a new distribution method for Walt and Jesse's product. Under stress, Jesse tells Jane what he does. Saul puts Walt in touch with a meth distributor named Gus Fring, who agrees to purchase Walt's product. However, Gus expresses concern about Jesse's drug problem, which has escalated into heroin use due to Jane's relapse. Skyler finds out that Ted has been engaging in tax evasion from the IRS, but due to their past relationship, she decides not to report it. Walt receives a large offer for the short-notice delivery of the remainder of their inventory, but at the same time receives a call from Skyler, notifying him of her imminent labor. Walt delivers the inventory in time but misses his daughter's birth. Jesse confronts Walt about his share of the payment, but Walt refuses to disburse the funds until Jesse can prove his sobriety. Jesse and Jane's addiction is discovered by Donald, who agrees to give her one day to settle her affairs before going to rehab. In an effort to minimize the cost of Walt's upcoming surgery, Walt Jr. sets up a website to gather donations for his father's medical expenses. It is quickly used by Saul as a way to launder Walt's earnings so they can be spent without raising suspicion. After discovering Jesse's payday, Jane blackmails Walt into delivering Jesse's share. Later, Walt returns to Jesse's and finds Jesse and Jane passed out in bed after a drug binge, both lying on their sides. He tries to shake Jesse conscious and as he does so, Jane flops over onto her back. Jane vomits and begins to suffocate. Walt leans to turn her over but quickly changes his mind as he stands and watches Jane die. Jesse discovers Jane's passing and reaches out to Walt. Walt contacts Saul, who sends his private investigator and cleaner Mike to conceal Jesse's involvement in Jane's death. Jesse is distraught and flees; Walt later locates him in a crack house and takes him to rehab. Walt's funds are funneled into his son's website, which attracts the attention of the media, causing him to be overcome with guilt. Walt's secretive behavior becomes a problem once again when he accidentally references a second cell phone while under the initial effects of anesthesia moments before his surgery. This prompts Skyler to investigate deeper, thereby revealing many of Walt's lies, including not taking any money from Gretchen and never visiting his mother, which spurs her to leave him. Jane's father, an air traffic controller, is distraught from his daughter's death, and accidentally allows a mid-air collision to occur between an airliner and a small plane in the sky above Albuquerque. The crash results in debris, including a scorched pink teddy bear and human remains, raining down onto the Whites' residence, as well as much of the city.

season 3 -
All of Albuquerque is in shock in the aftermath of the mid-air plane collision. Walt is living in his home alone after Skyler has moved out with Walt Jr. and their newborn daughter Holly to give Walt time to pack his things. Skyler speaks to a divorce lawyer about making the split permanent, but wavers when the attorney says she should try to uncover any money Walt may have hidden. Later, Skyler confronts Walt about the divorce and accuses him of being a weed dealer; Walt admits that he cooks meth, causing Skyler to leave, deeply shaken. Jesse is in rehab trying to overcome his drug addiction and come to terms with Jane's death. Walt tells Gus that he is leaving the business, though he briefly considers Gus' very lucrative offer. Meanwhile, two dangerous-looking twin brothers cross into the US from Mexico in search of Heisenberg. Walt is having difficulty adjusting to his new life. He has an encounter with a police officer but manages to avoid charges, thanks to Hank's intervention. Skyler continues to not let Walt return home, dismaying Walt Jr., who does not understand his mother's behavior. Saul wants Walt to start producing meth again and takes steps to encourage him in that direction. Unbeknownst to Walt, the twins (revealed to be Tuco's cousins) discover where he lives. Jesse, meanwhile, stops by his old house and discovers that his parents have had it renovated and have put it up for sale. Relations are still strained between them, and Jesse approaches Saul to buy the house from his parents. The cousins arrive at Walt's home to kill him but are called off at the last minute by Gus. Walt moves back into the house and tells Skyler he has no intention of leaving. Walt Jr. is thrilled that his dad is back, but Skyler calls the police in an attempt to have Walt thrown out. The police don't intervene, however, and she stops short of revealing Walt's illegal activities. Jesse is still having trouble coming to terms with Jane's death but has moved back into his house. Unbeknownst to Walt, Gus arranges a meeting with his Mexican cartel counterparts (including Tuco's cousins and uncle), and makes it clear that he wants Walt left alone. Hank, after finding out he is going to be transferred back to El Paso, lashes out in a bar. Walt explains to Skyler that he committed all of his illegal activities for the sake of the family, and begs her to accept the drug money. Later, Skyler seduces Ted, and that night, she coolly informs Walt of her infidelity. Jesse gives meth to a cashier in exchange for gasoline. Walt makes a scene at Skyler’s workplace while confronting Ted, but Mike removes Walt before the police can arrive. Saul tries to convince Walt to continue producing meth, but Walt refuses the offer and loses Saul’s help laundering money. Walt attempts to seduce the school principal, Carmen, but is promptly rebuffed and loses his job. As he leaves he is met by Jesse, who has produced a new batch of meth, following Walt's recipe. Walt rejects Jesse's product as substandard, and Jesse resolves to sell the product to Gus himself. Gus reluctantly agrees to the purchase, anticipating that Walt’s pride and financial need will convince him to accept his business proposition. Jesse makes the sale but receives only half the payment, while the second half is delivered to Walt. Hank forgoes his transfer to El Paso in order to pursue a new lead in the Heisenberg case, having found footage of Jesse's RV at the gas station. Walt correctly deduces that Gus tried to lure him back into the business by giving him half of Jesse's sale, but still refuses to accept. Gus tries to convince him for a last time with a high-tech superlab. Meanwhile, Hank continues investigating the RV and has an argument with Marie, who is concerned for his well-being and worries that he might be hiding something from her. Marie confides in Skyler, which in turn makes her doubt her new relationship with Ted. Moreover, she reconsiders Walt's drug money and starts realizing that she might want to patch things up. In the end, though, Skyler comes home to find the divorce contract signed by Walt, and all his belongings gone, including the money. At Saul's office, Walt gives the money to Jesse but reveals that he has decided to cook again, angering Jesse but exciting Saul. Hank finds a link between the RV and Jesse when he discovers it belonged to Combo's mother. Walt settles into a new apartment and takes a liking to his new, well-qualified lab assistant, Gale. In the wake of the divorce, Walt Jr. wants answers about his parents' relationship. Walt realizes that Hank has discovered Jesse's link to the RV and orders it destroyed. When Jesse angrily arrives, Hank follows him and corners them inside the RV, but is unaware of Walt's presence. They avoid capture by drawing Hank away with Saul's assistance, who has his secretary call Hank and claim that Marie was in an accident. Hank realizes the ruse only when he goes to the hospital, and Walt and Jesse nostalgically watch as the RV is destroyed. Gus, seeing that Tuco's two cousins definitely intend to kill Walt and cannot be held at bay for long, successfully turns their attention instead to Hank. Hank brutally attacks Jesse in retaliation for the incident at the impound lot; in the hospital, Jesse tells Saul and Walt that he will make Hank's life miserable and continue cooking, threatening to hand Walt to the DEA if he or Saul intervene. Skyler pressures Walt to convince Jesse to drop the charges against Hank. Walt engineers a fallout with Gale, and over Gus' objections, offers Jesse a chance to renew their partnership. At first, Jesse angrily refuses, but later agrees. Hank tearfully reflects with Marie on how his professionalism has deteriorated since he killed Tuco, before being suspended without pay. Later, Hank receives an anonymous call warning him he has one minute before he is attacked. Tuco's cousins arrive and shoot him several times, but he manages to mortally wound one of them and kill the other. Jesse is discharged from the hospital following Hank's attack on him and sees Hank being admitted in critical condition. Marie lashes out at Hank's boss when she hears they had taken his gun away, as well as at Walt, whom she blames for putting Jesse on Hank's radar in the first place. Walt lets Gale go, and while Walt is at the hospital, Jesse is left on his own in the lab and, unable to cook, becomes worried about meeting their quota. At the hospital, Walt sees one of Hank's assailants recovering and realizes they were probably after him as well; Gus decides to pay a visit to the hospital, and Walt learns that Gus has known for a while that Hank is his brother-in-law. Minutes after Gus leaves, the other assailant dies, and Mike is seen nearby (though only by the audience) dropping an empty syringe into a sharps container and then leaving. During a phone conversation with Gus, drug lord Juan Bolsa is shot in his home. Walt and Jesse are in full production in the new lab and easily producing their target 200 pounds of meth per week, while Jesse skims some of the excess to sell on his own with Badger and Skinny Pete. Hank is still recovering in the hospital, and Marie is at a loss about what to do when she learns that their insurance will not provide the quality of physical therapy Hank requires to walk again. Skyler, certain that Walt is at least indirectly responsible for the attack on Hank, proposes that she and Walt pay the bills, spinning a tale about Walt's "gambling". Hank's work partner Gomez shows Hank a map that indicates blue meth has been sold in seven states and tells Hank he was right about Heisenberg still being active. When Hank reveals that he received a warning phone call, Walt realizes that the attackers were after him and that Gus deflected their attention onto Hank. Walt is suffering from insomnia, worried about the direction his life has taken. Unaware that Jesse has been skimming, he is also concerned that their yield is a half-pound short of his calculations. His paranoia comes to a head when he spots a small housefly in the lab, and, worried about contamination, goes to extreme lengths to kill it. Jesse, at first dismissive, begins to help as well, and when he finds out Walt has not slept in two days, slips sleeping pills into Walt's coffee. Walt tries to pinpoint the exact moment when things got out of control. It becomes clear that the paranoia over contamination is not about the fly at all. Near delirium, Walt repeatedly refers to Jane and the night she died but stops short of telling Jesse what really happened. While Walt sleeps, Jesse cooks the batch on his own. In the parking lot the following morning, Walt refers to the missing half-pound of meth and warns Jesse that there may be hidden cameras in the lab and that he won't be able to protect Jesse if Gus finds out about the reason for the shortage. Skyler gets the first of Hank's hospital bills and, concerned that the money they use to pay them could be traced back to Walt's illegal activities, decides to get more involved in Walt's business affairs. Walt introduces her to Saul, but she is unimpressed by the investment Saul has lined up and has a better idea. Jesse tries to peddle the meth he has been skimming at the lab and, fed up with Badger and Skinny Pete's reluctance to sell to their rehab group decides to sell to Andrea, a new member at their NA meeting. He ends up in a relationship with her and refuses to sell her meth when he finds out she has a six-year-old son. At the hospital, Marie is thrilled at the prospect of Hank's returning home, but he adamantly refuses to leave the hospital until he can walk. Gus invites Walt to dinner and dispenses sage advice. Jesse discovers that Andrea's little brother was the kid who shot Combo. Jesse is ready for revenge when he realizes that the drug dealers who killed his friend are not only peddling his and Walt's blue meth but are using Andrea's 11-year-old brother Tomas as a hit man and drug dealer. Jesse is prepared to kill them and wants Walt to help him out. Walt refuses, but realizing the danger Jesse has put himself in, takes steps to protect him. Hank, meanwhile, is still reluctant to leave the hospital and go home, even though his doctors have told him he is free to leave at any time. Jesse learns that the drug dealers have chosen to end Tomas's involvement in their activities by killing the boy, and decides to kill the two dealers himself. Walt hears about the boy's death on TV and realizes Jesse is planning something. Jesse confronts the dealers, and as he and the dealers get their guns ready, Walt arrives in his car and runs the dealers over. A shocked Jesse stands watching, as Walt jumps out of his car, picks up a gun, and shoots one of the dealers in the head, telling Jesse to "run". After killing the drug dealers, Walt has a tense meeting with Gus, who makes it clear that his patience has reached its limit. Walt professes not to know the whereabouts of Jesse, who he falsely claims has fled the state. Gus chooses Walt's new assistant, who turns out to be Gale. In a meeting with Gale, Gus says that with his overhead he cannot afford to lose even a week's production. Walt realizes Gus intends to replace him with Gale, the only other trained chemist, and that he will be killed once Gale masters Walt's procedure. After he is abducted by Gus's men, Walt calls Jesse and orders him to murder Gale, knowing that Gus will have to keep him (and by extension Jesse) alive once he is the only trained chemist left. Victor races to Gale's apartment to stop this, but Jesse arrives first and, after some hesitation, pulls his gun on Gale and fires.

season 4 -
Walt and Jesse are held in the lab by Victor and Mike, anxiously awaiting Gus' reaction to the murder of Gale. Skyler fears the worst when she can't get hold of Walt. Saul is paranoid about bugs, wiretaps, and surveillance and hires a personal bodyguard. Hank struggles with life at home after his injury, snapping at Marie and becoming more preoccupied with collecting and cataloging minerals. Gus arrives, sees Victor cooking, changes into a lab suit, slits Victor's throat with a box cutter, then changes back to his work clothes and tells Walt and Jesse to get back to work. Walt illegally buys and begins carrying a snubnosed revolver, but Mike tells Walt he'll never see Gus again. Jesse, in an attempt to distract himself from having murdered Gale, buys an elaborate stereo system and throws an ongoing party with Badger and Skinny Pete. Hank continues to push Marie away, becoming increasingly obsessed with mineral collecting. Skyler attempts to buy the car wash that used to employ Walt, but the owner angrily refuses. Walt follows Mike to a bar and, believing Mike to be in as precarious a situation as he and Jesse, asks Mike to get him in a room with Gus, where Walt will "do the rest". Mike, either out of fear of or loyalty to Gus, beats up Walt and leaves. Walt is furious about a motion-detecting surveillance camera installed in the lab. Skyler convinces Walt in a meeting with Saul to buy the car wash. After much unjust pressure, the owner sells it to her, agreeing to an even lower price than her original offer. Jesse continues to open his house up for 24-hour, drug-fueled parties, deliberately throwing piles of money in the midst of the chaos. Frustrated with Hank's coldness at home, Marie renews her kleptomania. Hank obtains a copy of the lab notebook found in Gale's apartment from an interested colleague. Walt and Skyler plan to tell Hank and Walter, Jr. that they paid for the car wash with Walt's illicit gambling winnings; Skyler makes Walt meticulously rehearse their "spontaneous" admission of his problem. Hank tells Walt that he believes Gale was the cook of the high-grade blue meth, and that Gale was Heisenberg. Jesse's increasing complacency leads to over seventy thousand dollars in cash being stolen from his house. Mike reports to Gus that Jesse has become "incautious", and something needs to be done about him. The episode ends with Mike driving an expressionless Jesse to an unknown location. Mike takes Jesse on collections and assures Walt that he is safe. During the last collection, a man appears with a shotgun, and Jesse thwarts the robbery attempt; later, Gus and Mike discuss the day and it is revealed that the "robbery" was set up by Gus. Walt and Skyler purchase the car wash, after which Skyler asks Walt to move back into the house. When Hank suggests at a family dinner that Gale was a genius, an intoxicated Walt lets his ego get the better of him, and he tells Hank that he believes Gale most likely copied someone else's work and that Hank's "genius" is still at large. The next day, Hank dives back into the case with renewed vigor and discovers a Pollos Hermanos napkin amongst Gale's possessions. During an argument over Walt's behavior at dinner the night before, Skyler again pushes Walt to turn himself in; when he angrily lashes out and tells her that he is the one who is a danger to others, she leaves with Holly. Walt tells Jesse that Gus is attempting to drive a wedge between him and Jesse, correctly suspecting that the robbery that Jesse thwarted was a set-up. That afternoon, Jesse is again taken from the lab to run a job with Mike; Walt pays three workers at the laundry facility to clean the lab, but when Gus finds out, he has them deported. Later, Walt buys a flashy new car for Walt Jr., but when Skyler comes back she demands Walt return it, lest he blows their cover story. Jesse proves himself useful to Mike, and Gus tells Jesse that he "sees something" in him. Rather than return Walter Jr.'s car, Walt takes it on a joyride, crashes it, and blows it up. Skyler, taken aback by the amount of money Walt makes, is unsure how she'll launder all of it through the car wash successfully. Walt asks Jesse to kill Gus and concocts a ricin poison in the lab which Jesse hides in one of his cigarettes. At a meeting, the cartel offers Gus an ultimatum, which he rejects; Jesse has an opportunity to kill Gus but does not. He returns to his 12-step group, where he is kicked out after admitting to using the group to sell meth. Hank visits Gus' restaurant with Walt Jr. and obtains Gus' fingerprints from a cup; later, he informs his former partner and boss at the DEA of his investigation, having found a match for Gus' fingerprint at Gale's apartment. In flashback, Gus visits Hector (a.k.a. Tio, Tuco's uncle) in a nursing home and informs him of the death of his nephews after their attempt to kill Hank. In the present, Gus is questioned by Hank, the DEA, and the APD, but convinces everyone except Hank that he is innocent. Still believing Gus is a drug kingpin, Hank enlists Walt to plant an illegal tracking device on Gus' car; Walt sees Mike is present and shows Gus the device, but Gus calmly tells him to plant it. Walt tells Jesse to poison Gus as soon as possible. Gus visits Hector again, and in another flashback, Gus and his business partner Max meet Hector in 1989 when they approach drug kingpin Don Eladio. Gus and Max offer to produce high-quality meth for Don Eladio, with Max as the cook and Gus as the businessman. At Don Eladio's instruction, Hector shoots and kills Max as a warning to Gus. In the present, Gus hints to Hector that he (Gus) will one day exact his revenge. Ted tells Skyler that the IRS is auditing him. Skyler worries that, as Ted's bookkeeper, she too, and by association Walt, could be investigated. Hank's research uncovers Gus' depot, so Jesse is brought in to help clean and move all the product out of it. Gus calls the cartel, giving in to their demands and asks Jesse if he can cook Walt's formula. Walt and Jesse get into a major fight over their trust issues. Skyler has Saul concoct a story about an inheritance to give Ted enough money to pay off his back taxes. Ted promptly leases a Mercedes and refuses to pay his back taxes, telling Skyler he wants to get his business back up and running first and hire a tax lawyer to try and negotiate a "better deal" with the IRS; Skyler reveals that she was the source of his windfall. Walter Jr. finds Walt at his apartment, bloodied and incoherent after his fight with Jesse, and stays to take care of him; the next morning, Walt shares a rare moment of vulnerability with his son. Jesse, Mike, and Gus fly to the cartel's meth lab in Mexico. After a successful cook, Jesse is informed that he now belongs to the cartel. When they go to Don Eladio's estate to celebrate their alliance, Gus poisons Don Eladio and kills all of his men, but he himself is poisoned as well, and Mike is shot while they escape. Gus survives the poison, and Mike must stay in Mexico for a week to recover. Gus tells Jesse he can run the lab now, but Jesse tells him not to kill Walt. Ted still refuses to pay the IRS with the money from Skyler, until Saul's henchmen intimidate him. Hoping to stop Hank's investigations into Gus, Walt deliberately gets Hank into a car accident, but Hank is undeterred. Walt realizes Jesse has been cooking without him, but Jesse is unmoved when Walt confronts him and begs him to stop. Gus takes Walt to the desert and fires him, informing him that Hank will be killed and that Walt's entire family will be murdered if he interferes. Walt desperately prepares to have the family "disappear" but suffers a breakdown when he realizes he does not have enough money because Skyler gave it to Ted. Marie calls Skyler to tell her that the DEA has received an anonymous tip (from Saul) that Hank is a target again, and he is put under protection. Skyler, Walt Jr., and Holly go under DEA protection at Hank and Marie's home. Andrea calls Jesse to the hospital because her son, Brock, is in critical condition with a mysterious flu-like illness. Jesse finds the ricin vial missing and confronts Walt at the latter's barricaded home, suspecting he poisoned Brock. Walt convinces Jesse that Gus is behind the poisoning, as the final manipulation to turn Jesse fully against Walt, and the two agree Gus must be killed. Gus comes to the hospital and demands Jesse return to cook, but Jesse refuses. Walt attempts to kill Gus with a car bomb, but Gus, sensing danger, abandons the vehicle in the hospital parking garage. Detectives question Jesse about Brock, but Saul intervenes. Afterward, Walt, Jesse, and Saul realize that Gus may be vulnerable via his visits to Hector at the nursing home. Walt visits Hector, who readily agrees to his plan; Walt installs the bomb on Hector's wheelchair, so he can get revenge on Gus. Jesse is kidnapped from the hospital and held at gunpoint in the lab, forced to cook. When Gus visits to kill Hector, Hector detonates the bomb, killing Gus, Tyrus, and himself. Once Gus' death is confirmed, Walt rescues Jesse, and together they destroy the lab. Back at the hospital, Jesse tells Walt that Brock is recovering and that his illness was not caused by ricin, but rather toxic berries from a lily of the valley plant. Still, the two agree that Gus needed to be killed. Skyler calls Walt after seeing news about the nursing home explosion, and he declares to Skyler that he "won". The season ends with a shot of a potted lily of the valley plant in Walt's backyard, revealing that Walt had indeed poisoned Brock.

season 5 -
In a flashforward, a ragged, bearded Walt, living under a different identity, has breakfast at a Denny's restaurant in Albuquerque on his 52nd birthday (a little over a year into the future). He pays for and receives a key from a patron, which he uses to open a car trunk containing an M60 machine gun. In the present, news of the three deaths at the senior center Casa Tranquila spreads as Walt heads over to see his family. Walt uses a giant magnet to destroy evidence of his and Jesse's activities stored on Gus Fring's laptop in the police evidence lockup. A German businessman from Madrigal, the parent company of Los Pollos Hermanos, kills himself to evade questioning about his ties to Gus Fring. The DEA filters through various leads in hopes of finding something. In order to rebuild their lives and form a new profitable drug business, Walt and Jesse decide to look to Mike as a new partner. Mike refuses but soon learns that a Cayman Islands account Gus set up for Mike's granddaughter has been frozen by the DEA. Skyler's mental state continues to deteriorate due to Walter's criminal activity. Madrigal executive Lydia Rodarte-Quayle hires an assassin to kill off Gus' and Mike's former employees who can incriminate her, including the latter. Mike thwarts this plan and almost kills Lydia, but relents and instead asks her to continue supplying methylamine to Walter White. Walter moves back into the house, to Skyler's dismay. Walter, Mike, and Jesse meet with Saul to discuss finding a new place to cook. They use Vamonos Pest (a pest control business) as a cover, cooking in the houses that have been tented over. When it comes time to divide the earnings of their first cook, Walter is upset about the amount of money going to Mike's former men, whose assets were seized when they were arrested. Lydia offers up her own employee to the DEA and Mike offers her a replacement: Jesse. Together, she and Jesse spot a tracking device on a barrel of methylamine. Mike believes she placed the device herself. Skyler ignores Walter's birthday as her depression and frustration grow more severe. After Skyler has a mental breakdown, Walter admits to cooking again, and they argue about the safety of the children. Skyler tells Walter she's waiting for him to die and decides that the children are safer staying with the Schraders. Meanwhile, Hank gets a promotion to ASAC. After Walter bugs Hank's new office and Mike learns he was wrong about Lydia placing the tracking device, the team works through several ideas to obtain methylamine from another source. They decide on a train heist, with Todd, a Vamonos Pest employee, assisting in the operation. The heist goes almost as smoothly as planned, but Todd notices a young boy stopping by on his dirtbike and witnessing the operation. Having been told by Jesse that no one should find out about the heist, he immediately shoots and kills the boy, much to Jesse's horror. Following the boy's killing and new developments with the DEA, Jesse and Mike decide to quit. Mike strikes a deal to sell the methylamine to another drug dealer, Declan, but Walter refuses to cooperate. Walter invites Jesse to his home and confides to him his regret about selling his share of Gray Matter and his plans to build another empire. Skyler returns home; the three dine together at Walter's request, during which Skyler openly discusses her affair. Afterward, Walter discloses to Jesse that Skyler is awaiting his death, and that the meth business is all he has left. Walter steals the methylamine from Mike to sabotage the deal with Declan. When Mike finds out, he threatens to kill Walter, but the latter suggests he can strike a better deal that would let him keep the business running. Walter, Jesse, and Mike meet with Declan so Walter can negotiate a deal: Declan will distribute Walter's meth. Jesse still wants to quit the business, so Walter employs Todd as his assistant. Told to end his pursuit of Mike, Hank instead follows Dan Wachsberger, the lawyer who is laundering Mike's money. After Jesse demands his cut of the deal so he can leave, Walter attempts to manipulate him into staying and refuses to pay him. Dan gives in to the DEA, but Walter finds out and warns Mike. When they meet, Walter demands that Mike tell him the names of the people in prison whose silence Mike has been paying for. Mike refuses and berates Walter; telling him they could have kept working for Gus Fring if Walter hadn't ruined that with his pride and ego. Insulted, Walter shoots him in a fit of anger. Horrified by his own action, he realizes he could have gotten the names from Lydia. The two watch the sunset on the riverbank as Mike succumbs to his wound. Walter meets with Lydia to obtain the names of Mike's associates. Lydia partners with him to expand his distribution overseas to the Czech Republic. Walter takes the names to Todd's uncle, Jack Welker, who has ties with Aryan Brotherhood prison gangs. Mike's lawyer and the nine prisoners are killed under Walter's orders. The meth production runs profitably for months. Skyler makes another effort to convince Walter to give up his criminal life, and Walter ultimately relents after realizing they now have more money than can even be counted. Walter visits Jesse to pay him his cut of the deal with Declan, Jesse expects Walter came to kill him and sighs in relief. The Whites' children move back in. During a family cookout, Hank flips through Leaves of Grass in Walt's bathroom and sees the dedication from Gale Boetticher. He realizes that Walt is Heisenberg. In a flashforward, Walter arrives at his dilapidated and fenced-off abandoned house to retrieve a hidden vial of ricin. In the present, Hank requests all files of the Fring case and matches the handwriting in Walter's copy of Leaves of Grass with that of Gale. Meanwhile, Jesse throws his money away in a residential neighborhood. Walt's cancer returns and after a chemo treatment, he finds his copy of Leaves of Grass missing. Walt immediately searches for and finds a GPS tracker on his car, suspecting that Hank has now uncovered the truth. Walt confronts Hank, who accuses him of being Heisenberg. Walt warns Hank to "tread lightly". Hank reaches Skyler before Walt. He attempts to obtain a statement from Skyler, but she refuses to talk. Skyler also refuses to say anything incriminating when Marie visits, only saying "I'm so sorry." Walter buries his money in the desert at the Tohajiilee Indian Reservation. Lydia, facing pressure from her Czech Republic customers, tries to convince Declan to use Todd as his chemist. When Declan refuses, Uncle Jack's gang kills him and his associates and takes the meth production equipment. Hank, unable to obtain information from Skyler or Walt, returns to his office at the DEA to learn that Jesse is being detained and questioned. Jesse refuses to cut a deal with Hank. At an arranged meeting in public, Walt, Skyler, Hank, and Marie try to negotiate. When Walt's attempts to negotiate with Hank fail, he leaves Hank and Marie with a DVD of Walt implicating Hank as the mastermind of the methamphetamine business. Walt offers Jesse money to leave town for good and assume a new identity. Jesse agrees until he realizes that Saul took the ricin cigarette from him so that Walt could frame Fring for poisoning Brock. Jesse flies into a rage, breaks into the White home, and douses it with gasoline. Walt finds Jesse's car crashed in his driveway and his house unoccupied and doused in gasoline. He leaves a message on Jesse's voicemail to meet in order to explain himself. Skyler pushes Walt to kill Jesse. Hank is revealed to have stopped Jesse from torching the Whites' house. Jesse agrees to cooperate with Hank, who videotapes Jesse's confession. Jesse goes to meet Walt while wearing a wire. He instead calls Walt, refusing to meet and threatening to "get him where he really lives." Walt calls Todd to say he has another job for his uncle. Walt calls Todd to negotiate a hit on Jesse. Todd's uncle, Jack Welker, agrees on the condition that Walt cooks one more time so that Todd can observe him. Hank attempts to learn the whereabouts of Walter's money through Huell, whom he detains; Saul reports Huell's disappearance to Walt. Walt attempts to lure Jesse out of hiding by having Andrea call him, but Hank intercepts the message. Aware that Walt has buried his money somewhere, Hank stages a photo to convince Walt that Jesse found the money. Walt panics and frantically drives to To'hajiilee, where the money is buried, pleading with Jesse by phone not to burn the money, and unintentionally confessing to various murders. Walt calls Jack and demands that he and his crew come to his rescue. Upon seeing Hank and Gomez with Jesse, however, he orders them off. Walt surrenders, but Jack and his crew arrive. A shootout ensues between Jack's crew and Hank and Gomez. Jack and his team remain unscathed while Agent Gomez lies dead and Hank has been shot in the thigh. Walt begs Jack not to kill Hank, offering Jack $80 million in cash in exchange for Hank's life. Nonetheless, Jack executes Hank and his men dig up all seven barrels, leaving one for Walt. At Todd's suggestion, they take Jesse hostage in order to get information from him about how much he told the DEA. After being beaten and tortured for information, Jesse is forced by Todd to help him cook meth. Marie tells Skyler that Hank has Walt in custody, and Skyler agrees to tell the truth to Walt, Jr. When they return home, they find Walt packing and insisting the family leave immediately. Realizing Hank is dead, Skyler attacks Walt with a knife; Walt, Jr. defends his mother in the ensuing fight and calls the police on Walt, who escapes with Holly. After taking full responsibility for the meth business during a call to Skyler that is monitored by the police, he leaves Holly at a fire station and assumes a new identity through Saul's contact. Assisted by Saul's contact Ed, Walt relocates to a cabin in New Hampshire while Saul leaves for Nebraska. After being interrogated by the DEA, Skyler is threatened by Todd not to talk about Lydia. Jesse tries to escape from the Aryan Brotherhood's compound but is caught. As punishment, Jesse is taken to Andrea's house in a van and forced to watch Todd murder her. Walt calls Walter, Jr. from a pay phone in a bar, but Walter, Jr. gets enraged and hangs up the phone after wishing death upon his father. Walt then calls the DEA to turn himself in. While sitting at the bar, Walt watches Charlie Rose interview Elliott and Gretchen and becomes incensed when they deny the significance of Walt's contributions to Gray Matter. The police soon encircle the bar, but Walt has already left. Walt locates Gretchen and Elliott and gives them $9,720,000 to give to Walt, Jr. when he turns 18, threatening that he has hired hitmen who will kill them should they fail to do so, who turn out to be Badger and Skinny Pete with laser pointers who Walt paid to intimidate Gretchen and Elliott. He then crashes a meeting between Lydia and Todd, putting the ricin in Lydia's stevia. He visits Skyler and gives her the coordinates of Hank and Gomez's burial site, imploring her to use it to bargain for a plea deal. He then drives to the Aryan Brotherhood's headquarters with the M60 machine gun which he has jury rigged in the trunk. When Jack brings Jesse in from cooking to show him to Walter, Walt tackles Jesse to the ground and triggers the M60, which mortally wounds Walt and kills everyone else, except for Todd, whom Jesse strangles to death, and Jack, whom Walt shoots in the head. Jesse refuses to shoot Walt, though Walt asks him to. When Lydia calls Todd, Walt answers and informs her within earshot of Jesse about the poisoned stevia. Walt and Jesse acknowledge each other one final time before Jesse escapes in Todd's car, crying in joy. As he succumbs to his gunshot wound, Walt spends his last moments gazing around the meth lab before suddenly collapsing and dying. The police find his body in the lab moments later.
